Sunday at John Moore's
One of many farewell events, though we didn't call them that.
Nick arranged for a breadfruit roast on the beach at Weston in front of local favorite spot, the John Moore Bar. Karaoke is big in Barbados and, it seems, with students from Richmond, Virginia. As the sun settled onto the western horizon, all of us--10 students, a prof, his son and daughter, our main man about the program, two of his best friends--reminisced about the trip, learned a few new things about the local scene, bathed in the softest, warm and refreshing salty Caribbean sea water... Breadfruit will always taste like all of that. I never did eat a mango in the sea. Shame.

| Breadfruit has a fascinating, dense and creamy meat that could nourish a family of four. Served with roasted whole red snapper, and twice fried plantains (platanos), that was some beautiful meal. So much of what we did was centered on food. |
